Mission Inmate Search and Jail Roster

The Mission jail roster shows who is currently held at the Hidalgo County jail following arrests made by Mission police and other agencies working in the area. Mission does not operate its own city jail. When Mission officers arrest someone, that person is transferred to the Hidalgo County detention facility for booking and housing. This page explains how to search the Mission jail roster for free, what each booking record contains, how VINE works for tracking inmate custody status, and where to go for state prison records when someone does not appear in the county system.

Where Mission Inmates Are Held

Mission is in Hidalgo County in the Rio Grande Valley. All arrests made in Mission are processed through the Hidalgo County jail, which is run by the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office. The city of Mission does not operate a standalone detention facility. City police handle arrests, and the county sheriff manages the jail, the booking process, and all inmate records. This is the standard Texas model.

The Hidalgo County inmate roster includes each person's name, date of birth, booking date, charges, bond status, and current custody status. No account or fee is needed to search.

If someone does not appear in the online system, call the sheriff's office. New bookings can take several hours to enter the public database after a person arrives at the facility.

Mission Police Department

The Mission Police Department handles law enforcement within the city. Officers respond to calls, make arrests, and document incidents throughout Mission. After an arrest, the department transfers the person to the Hidalgo County jail for booking. Mission PD does not maintain an inmate roster or run a city jail.

Under the Texas Public Information Act, Government Code Chapter 552, you can request records from Mission PD. This includes arrest logs, incident reports, and other non-exempt documents. Send a written request to the department's public information officer. They have ten business days to respond. Records tied to active investigations may be withheld, but the agency must state the specific exemption. Denials can be challenged with the Texas Attorney General free of charge.

How to Search the Mission Jail Roster

Searching the Mission jail roster is straightforward. Enter the person's first and last name. A date of birth helps narrow the results. The search returns any current Hidalgo County bookings including charges, bond information, and booking date. Both options are free and available at any time.

A few things to know before you search:

  • Use the person's full legal name
  • Date of birth helps significantly when names are common
  • New bookings may take a few hours to appear online
  • State-sentenced inmates appear in TDCJ records, not the county roster

If you cannot find someone right away, wait a few hours and try again. Booking data is entered after the person is processed at the jail, which takes time. If you see a record with a release status, the person is no longer in county custody. If they were moved to a state facility, check the TDCJ system. You can also call the Hidalgo County jail directly to confirm a recent booking that has not yet shown up online.

VINE Inmate Notification

VINE, which stands for Victim Information and Notification Everyday, is a free service that sends automatic alerts when an inmate's custody status changes in the Hidalgo County jail. If someone was arrested in Mission and is in county custody, you can register through VINELink to receive notifications by phone, text, or email when they are released, transferred, or when any other change is recorded in their case.

Call 1-877-894-8463 to sign up by phone at any time. The service runs 24 hours a day. VINE covers every Texas county jail, so Hidalgo County inmates including those from Mission arrests are in the system. Family members, victims, and attorneys throughout the Rio Grande Valley and across Texas use VINE to stay informed about custody changes without having to call the jail every day.

State Prison and Criminal History Records

The Mission jail roster only covers people currently in the Hidalgo County jail. It does not include anyone who has been convicted and sent to state prison. Use the TDCJ Inmate Search to look up state-sentenced inmates. TDCJ shows current facility location, offense, and projected release date for every person in the Texas state prison system.

For broader criminal history data, the Texas DPS Crime Records division maintains statewide records covering arrests, charges, and case outcomes across all Texas counties. Some records are freely available. Others require a fee or a signed release. DPS records go beyond a single county roster and can help when you need a more complete picture of someone's background in Texas.

Hidalgo County Jail Standards

The Texas Commission on Jail Standards oversees all county jails in Texas under Title 37 of the Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 265. TCJS sets rules for staffing, medical care, inmate housing, and records management. The Hidalgo County jail is subject to regular inspections and must correct any violations within required deadlines. Inspection reports and compliance notices are publicly available on the TCJS website.

Public Information Requests in Mission

Texas Government Code Chapter 552 gives anyone the right to request records from public agencies without providing a reason. You can ask Mission PD or the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office for booking records, arrest logs, or incident reports in writing. The agency must respond within ten business days. Most jail and arrest records are public under Texas law unless a specific exemption applies.

If a request is denied, the agency must cite which exemption they are using. You can appeal the denial to the Texas Attorney General's open records unit. The AG reviews the matter and can order the records released if the agency did not have valid grounds for withholding them. Filing an appeal costs nothing.
